Congress has approved an extension of the June 30 closing deadline for the federal homebuyer tax credit.  Buyers who were under contract as of April 30 will now have until September to close their purchase and retain eligibility for the credit. 

In this challenging economy, the Public Awareness Campaign is reminding consumers about "What Matters Most" - family, friendship, community, and finding a home that's right for them. The materials convey that REALTORS® are part of the fabric of communities across the country and emphasize the value REALTORS® bring to buyers, sellers and investors. Television, radio, print and online advertising continues as part of the expanded media buy that began in November 2009.

The Professional Achievers Circle applications, rules and transaction forms for the Bartow Area Board are now ready for distribution. Be sure to review the summary of changes. On July 30 and 31, Atlanta-area Congressmen John Lewis, David Scott, and Hank Johnson will host "Help for Homeowners," a community event that offers homeowners a free opportunity to meet one-on-one with HUD-approved counselors and mortgage lenders to determine eligibility for the Making Home Affordable program or other options from lenders.

This June, REALTORS® scored two very important political victories when Congress extended the closing deadline for the federal Homebuyer Tax Credit and reauthorized the National Flood Insurance Program. President Obama signed both bills into law this morning. Had our allies in Congress failed to act, NAR estimates over 6,200 real estate transactions in Georgia could have been jeopardized.
